Library Orientation (Fall 2024): Technology

This guide introduces the Library and its services to new Marianopolis students. It supplements information that all students receive through the Library Orientation session that they receive in their English 603-101-MQ course.

Library computers

The Library has 28 desktop computers available on the Main Floor. They are available on a first-come, first served basis.

There are also two printing stations on the wall in the hallway outside of the Library. These computers are meant for quick use only, primarily for printing documents.

To log in to the Library's computers, or any computer at the College, please follow the instructions on the Logging in to Accounts page.

Printer and photocopier

Photocopier

There is a black and white photocopier in the hallway outside of the Main Floor entrance of the Library. It costs 10 cents per page for photocopies. The photocopier can also be used to scan and e-mail documents for free. To use the photocopier, swipe your Marianopolis ID card in the keypad attached to the wall above the photocopier, with the magnetic stripe facing to the right. Don't forget to press the "cancel" or "finish" button when you are finished printing or someone else will be able to print using your credits!

Printer

There is a student printer located in the hallway outside of the Main Floor entrance of the Library. It can print in black and white or colour.

To print in black and white, select "B&W_LIB" when printing from a College computer, or select "Library - Black and White Printer" when printing from your laptop (see below for details). It costs 7 cents per single-sided page or 12 cents per double-sided page to print in black and white.

The print in colour, select "CLR_LIB" when printing from a College computer, or select "Library - Colour Printer" when printing from your laptop (See below for details). It costs 15 cents per single-sided page or 25 cents per double-sided page to print in colour.

Printing credits

Every first-year student starts out with $2.50 in printing credits. This credit is automatically deducted whenever you print or photocopy anything while at the College. After the $2.50 runs out, you will need to add your own printing credits to your account. To add credit:

  • Using cash: To replenish your credit using cash, go to the Wayne's World (A-101) across from the Cafeteria entrance. You will need your student ID. There, you can purchase $2, $5 and $10 credit notes for printing. Take these credit notes to the Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT) service counter (A-362), where they will take the credit note and add the amount to your account.
  • Using a debit or credit card: You can add credits to your print balance online using a debit (TD Canada Trust, First Nations Bank of Canada, and select Credit Unions only) or a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) through printbalance.marianopolis.edu. Log in using your seven-digit student number and the password that you use to log in to any of the College's computers (not your Omnivox password), then follow the instructions on the page to add print credits. You may purchase between $5.00 and $25.00 of credits at any given time. These credits are automatically added to your account.

Printing from your own laptop

It is possible to print to any of the College's student printers from your laptop. To do so, you must first be logged in to the College's "StuStu" wifi. Once you are logged in, go to: stuprint.marianopolis.com. Use your seven-digit student number as your username, and the same password that you use for your College Microsoft 365 account to log in to Stuprint. The default setting for your password is your permanent code (with capital letters), followed by a hashtag. Once logged in, you will be prompted to upload the file you want to print and to select the printer you want to use.

For information about setting your password for the College's computers and for logging in to the "StuStu" wifi, please see the Logging into accounts section of this guide.

Please Note: It is not possible to print from one of the laptops that you borrow from the Teaching and Learning Technology (TLT) service counter (A-362). In this case, you must save the file, e-mail it to yourself or put it on a memory key, then print the file from one of the Library desktop computers.

Borrowing a laptop from the Library

The Library has several ThinkPad PC laptops available for 3-hour loans. They can be borrowed from the Circulation Desk on the Library's Main Floor.
