This guide covers the Library's collections of books from Canada Reads / Le Combat des livres, CBC/Radio-Canada's long-running events.

What is Canada Reads?

Founded in 2002, Canada Reads is CBC's annual "battle of the books" competition. Broadcast every year on CBC Radio One, CBC TV, CBCbooks.ca, and streaming through CBC Gem and CBC Listen. Each year, five Canadian books are championed by five celebrity Canadian, with one book being eliminated every day of the competition before one final book is declared the absolute must-read book for all Canadians for that year. While the format has varied slightly over the years, include a year where the final five books are chosen by an online vote, or several years with specific themes.

Canada Listens

In 2021, CBC Music announced Canada Listens, which applies the Canada Reads format to five albums by Canadian musicians. Broadcast on CBC Music's Mornings and streaming through CBC Listen.

Qu'est-que c'est Le Combat des livres?

Lancé en 2004, Le Combat des livres utilise la même format que Canada Reads. Chaque année, cinq panélistes s'affrontent afin de déterminer le livre gagnant dans un série des débats durant une semaine.

En 2015, Le Combat des livres était temporairement arreté.

Le concurs a repris en 2018 sous le nom Le Combat national des livres. 5 livres, provenant de cinq régions: Atlantique, Ouest, Québec, Ontario et Territoires autochtones, sont présentés.

En 2021, Radio-Canada á lancé Le Combat des livres jeunesse. Chaque année, cinq jeunes de 14 à 16 ans, de partout au pays, défendent le livre qui a le plus marqué leur adolescence.
