Founded in 2002, Canada Reads is CBC's annual "battle of the books" competition. Broadcast every year on CBC Radio One, CBC TV, CBCbooks.ca, and streaming through CBC Gem and CBC Listen. Each year, five Canadian books are championed by five celebrity Canadians, with one book being eliminated every day of the competition before one final book is declared the absolute must-read book for all Canadians for that year. While the format has varied slightly over the years, include a year where the final five books are chosen by an online vote, or several years with specific themes.
